The homelessness of women does not represent a new phenomenon, yet women, who have been affected by this issue for a long time were neither recognized as a target group by the governmental homelessness helping institutions nor by the research community. Accordingly, this studys thesis focuses on the issue of female homelessness and examines more closely the living environment of these women. By means of qualitative questioning, the circumstances of those affected as well as associated challenges are explored. In relation to the biographical background and causes of homelessness, transition towards a support system, current circumstances, dealing with the homeless facilities, personal goals and desires, various conditions are described. The aim of the study is to provide access to the individual lifestyles of homeless women and to enable an insight into their personal perspectives and ways. The result of this study offers valuable clues to relevant biographical themes of these individuals and reveals that there are common issues, coping strategies and needs in many areas despite the different individual life stories and current life situation. Finally, aspects in favor of social work within the homelessness support based on relevant needs and a true-to-life orientation are demonstrated.
