This master thesis deals with the prevalence of violence and neglect in education in Graz and Western Styria. The aim is to find out how frequently violence and neglect in education occur in child rearing in Graz and in Western Styria, although since 1989 there has been a continuous violence ban in Austria. Furthermore, the frequency differ-ences of violent incidents in the western Styrian countryside compared to those in the city of Graz will be indicated below. In addition, there is the research into the use of violent force in terms of the social milieu. To address these issues, young people be-tween the ages of 13 and 21 years were asked about their experiences of violence in their childhood in youth centers by means of standardized questionnaires. Based on the literature and the results of the study, it is shown that there are signs of a significant decline in the rate of individual forms of violence. However, there are still sporadic re-ports of violent incidents. No difference in the urban-rural comparison could be detect-ed. No relationship between the various social milieus and the frequency of violent in-cidents has occurred.
