In „The bright side of life“ the research question: ”What are the main differences and/or communalities between Austrian and Swedish students of the universities “Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz” and “Uppsala Universitet” related to their values, satisfaction and future optimism?” is going to be answered. Related to the progressive change in values of the societies, two European countries (Austria and Sweden) were chosen and their potential common values and attitudes were checked out. Based on the outcome of the European Value Survey 2008, the three categories “family”, “work” and “society” were used to create a questionnaire. Furthermore the factors “satisfaction” and “(future) optimism” were included. For the verification of the hypotheses, an online-questionnaire has been sent to the students of the universities in Graz and Uppsala. The evaluation of the questionnaire was done with inferential statistic data analysis. In the categories “work”, “society” and “satisfaction” the students show communalities in certain points. On the other hand, a few points of the categories “family”, “work”, “society” and “(future) optimism” show significant differences.
