Esthetical concepts in elected narrations of JugendstilIn the following thesis particularities of esthetic concepts in three texts will be explored. It treats Leopold von Andrian‘s novel Garten der Erkenntnis, which is interesting because of the special presentation of persons. Hugo von Hofmannsthal‘s Märchen der 672. Nacht offers a wide range of esthetic concepts. Heinrich Mann‘s Das Wunderbare still remains under the impression of neo-romanticism, but already displays clear features of Jugendstil. Especially the pictorialness in Mann‘s novel offers an impressive example of options for esthetic design. The different manners of arrangement of all three texts provide an insight into the variability of literature around 1900. For this reason, attention is also directed on particular phenomenons of those times. The thesis first addresses the definition of terms and later analyses circumstances of formation for art in Jugendstil. At the same time, the attempt to distinguish Jugendstil from other artistic movements from the same era is made. In the last part the named novels are analysed, and typical characters, topoi and motives are made evident. This thesis closes with a résumé of findings from the preceeding analyses.
