This paper is based on a theoretical approximation to this topic. As part of this work, a reading fluency test for elementary school kids has been developed and piloted. This test should additionally been offered to the LARS program (Improving Language And Reading Skills in children with German as a first or second language). The innovative part about this test is that it includes the contemporary vocabulary of children in German speaking areas. The two main quality criteria of the test, objectivity and validity, has been reviewed and approved on a sample of 182 children. The results show a high corre-lation between the outcome of the developed test and the results of the SLRT-II test as well as no significant correlation between the developed test and a vocabulary test.
