Besides the classic factors of production labor, land and capital the resource knowledge is becoming increasingly important for organizations. Thereby knowledge management creates the organizational and infrastructural base to create new knowledge, to consolidate existing knowledge and to disseminate knowledge within the organization. Through the development of the industry society to a knowledge society new demands emerge on schools as organisations that can be addressed through the application of knowledge management. Due to the high diversity of teachers at vocational schools and colleges as well as the strong connection of BMHS to the economy the use of knowledge management strategies, policies and instruments is particularly effective. This master thesis aims to work out the requirements of the knowledge society on BMHS and to demonstrate the development of school-based knowledge management to address the requirements. First, theoretical bases on knowledge management are explained. For this purpose an analysis of the term knowledge, the various forms of knowledge, knowledge as a resource and the knowledge society is conducted. Concerning the topic knowledge management, different models of knowledge management are worked out and organizational knowledge management is explained. The theoretical principles are then transferred to the area of schools. In this regard, an examination of schools as knowledge-based, learning organisations takes place. In addition, the different models of knowledge management are described from the perspective of schools to develop different approaches to school-based knowledge management. Finally, BMHS are considered in the knowledge society to address the requirements of the knowledge society on BMHS and to demonstrate school-based knowledge management as accomplishment to these requirements. |
