This diploma thesis deals with feedback and reflection within an appraisal interview. The purpose is to illustrate how feedback and reflection can be fostered within an enterprise through an appraisal interview. In this context the perspective of the employee as well as the perspective of the manager will be highlighted. After a short introduction in the first chapter, the second chapter deals with the definition of feedback and reflection. Subsequently the basic requirements regarding feedback and reflection are outlined together with the importance of these tools when it comes to the organization of the learning process and the business culture. The third chapter starts with a definition of an appraisal interview and continues with the reasons for its implementation. There is also a description of the application of an appraisal interview as a management tool. In addition to this, an introduction to the three phases of an appraisal interview is shown. The fourth chapter deals with the integration of feedback and reflection within the appraisal interview. For this purpose, chapter four will describe the modified claims of employees regarding the behaviour of their managers in connection with reference to the necessity of appraisal interviews and feedback as instruments of successful leadership. Various types of conversations between employees and managers will be described in this context. Finally an opinion will be given on the difference in relation to self and the awareness of others. The advantages of feedback and reflection for all participants will be pointed out. The fifth chapter will summarise the most important findings.
