This paper deals with the technology transfer as a service. Therefore, the characteristics of service innovation and those of technology transfer are explained separately. As characteristics of service innovation intangibility, integration of customers, integration of the external factor, the concept of simultaneity, non shelf life and individuality can be identified. The characteristics of technology transfer are planning, interaction of all people involved, modification and uncertainty of technology. In addition, it is searched for congruent characteristics, whereby strong congruencies are found through the intangibility of a service and the uncertainty of technology, through the integration of customers and interaction of all people involved and through the individuality of a service and the modification of the technology transfer. Moreover, the methods of service innovation are explained as well as the instruments of technology transfer. Methods of service innovation are concepts for developing services. Blueprinting, Cognitive Scripts, Black Box Engineering, Role Concepts and the Quality Function Deployment are methods to develop services.Furthermore, it is outlined which methods of service innovation could be implemented within technology transfer. Here, Blueprinting, Role Concepts and the Quality Function Deployment are identified as useful methods within the technology transfer. Those findings are based on supports in literature and shown trough examples. Finally, guidances for technology providers, for transfer facilitators and for technology recipients are given, as well as a list of advantages of the implementation of the methods for service innovation within the technology transfer.
