More than ever, focus is placed on children?s health in our society. However, health is not only the absence of illness, it also includes several other components. The goal of this master thesis is to demonstrate the influence of human movement on health ? especially in the first few years of life and up to the preschool age. At first, definitions of basic terms such as health and illness are presented and in addition to this, health concepts are explained. Secondly, social inequality and health promotion are discussed. Furthermore, the topic of movement, as a central theme, is displayed. Current projects which try to include movement as a health support during childhood are illustrated. Finally, a short summary and a conclusion are given.
