Sport is certainly important in Austria and even though it has a huge impact on health, it is also a driving power for the economy and for society. Thereby it is common that a lot of sports clubs and sports unions are managed under the legal form of an Idealverein according to Vereinsgesetz 2002. This Master?s thesis "Corporate management in Austrian sports clubs - basis analysis and future models" illustrates the corporate management with all its characteristics and specifies in Austrian sports clubs. There are several changes in the field of sport and thus it is of high importance to have an educated and professional staff, which can handle all these developments. Through commercialization, sports clubs are turning into top-selling businesses and the officials have to be prepared to act more economically. There are numerous honorary employees in sports clubs, who cannot meet these requirements. Therefore the absence of managerial skills is often crucial for success or failure. In addition it is essential to handle diverse challenges and problems to change the structures and make further developments possible. According to that, the problem statement of this Master?s thesis is the management of sports clubs and their future developments. Today it is not sufficed that relatives or former athletes, which have no management trainings or any experiences, are administrating a sports club. A professional management is essential and the know-how of experts is indispensable. The target of this Master?s thesis was to compare the theory with the reality and to try to figure out, if Austrian sports clubs are managed as recommended by references. There are a lot of requirements and problems, which have to be solved and plenty of actions have to be implemented to be economically and sportily successful. Furthermore this thesis should be a guideline for sports clubs to support their work and to enable economic activities.
