The theory-practice-discourse still is an omnipresent nursing issue. Implemention of theoretical, school-learnt knowledge into nursing practice is sometimes not that easy. For this reason, the question of the experience and the importance of the theory-practice-discrepancy was investigated with qualified caregivers in the present masterthesis. First the theoretical background was described by literature. The socialization of nurses, knowledge and expertise acquisition and the theory-practice-discrepancy are the topics. Afterwards was an empirical study implemented where nurses of different expertise levels have been asked by interview about their experience and importance of the theory-practice-discrepancy in their job routine. Data have been analyzed by qualitative content analysis in accord with Philipp Mayring. Finally the theoretical knowledge and the results of the study were combined and interpreted.
