Everyday life on a camping holiday on the island of LosinjWhat usually comes to your mind if you think of a camping holiday is that it is a rather inexpensive. Things are, however, a lot more complicated. There are many different ways of camping and different reasons for all of them.A large majority of campers, however, seem to travel just because they enjoy the camping life. Many of them welcome the fact, that a camping holiday breaks the monotony of their daily life, while for others sleeping in a tent just means getting about uncomplicatedly and flexibly. Living in a tent is not such a very long way away from all of us. In the western world people don?t permanently live in mobile dwellings but they have adopted a mobile life style. In the course of time, camping has become more and more socially acceptable and at certain periods. If you take a look around, you will find a close network of camping sites ? not only in tourist areas. Camping has developed into an acceptable common practice. Any camping site represents a small town of its own, with shopping and child care facilities as well as sports complexes. So far, only very limited specific investigation has been carried out into the topic of everyday life on a campsite, so there is a large field of work left for future research. The aim of this thesis is to closely examine everyday life on a camping site on the island of Losinj in Croatia. These are the central questions of the thesis:For what reasons do people go camping? To what extent is the financial situation responsible for the decision to go on a camping holiday and in whatway does it influence the holiday? Can the typical camper be classified as belonging to a certain level of society? What kind of camping equipment is used? How is a usual day of a camper generally structured?Do campers prefer to stay by themselves or do they attempt to set up contact with others? What do campers wish for their future?
