The following work deals with the issue of violence against teachers in the public school system in Styria, Austria. First of all, the problem of the exact scientific definition of violence, aggression and aggressivity is presented and discussed in the theoretical part. For an overview of the causes of violence there is offered a review of the theories about the increases of violence. In connection with this topic, an exhibit of the current research results of the area of violence against teachers from the German speaking countries is also attached. To deal with the current situation in Styria, a research plan was developed in this work, by means of which experts for the Styrian school system, have been interviewed. The experts include principals of schools, consulting teachers, experts from the teachers councils, School psychologists and supervisory school authorities. The results were evaluated using the structured content analysis according to MAYRING (2010). It has been established that within the expert opinions as well as in the scientific literature, no agreement has been reached on the definition of violence, especially violence against teachers. Also in the research it was shown, that the causes of violence against teachers are very subjective, and that students are not the only perpetrators of this manner of violence, also other groups of person in the public school system in Styria causes violence against teachers. Regarding the forms and the frequency of violence against teachers, the German studies results from FUCHS, LAMNEK, LUEDTKE & BAUER (2009), SCHWIND, ROTISCH & GIELEN (2003), SCHMITT (2003) and BENESCH (2008) did confirm this.
