The following study deals with poker and its relevance in the domain of sport. The principal aim of the study is to examine whether the card game known as "poker" is actually a hazard game, or it is also possible to characterise poker as a sport activity. In the first part of this study the autor will analyse the term sport as such. In particular, an attempt will be made to describe and evaluate what role it has, in terms of linguistic phylosophy as well as on institutional level. In the central part of the study the author will strive to describe what the term hazard game actually means and how it should be understood in order to analyse, in the following part the game "poker" as such. Here, the main objective will be to explore and than to explain whether poker is more a hazard game or it is more a sport. To achieve this purpose the author will present the relevant studies which, on the one side, are against the categorisation of poker within the ambit of hazard games, but also suggest, on the other side, why it is possible to speak about poker as a sport activity.
