This thesis focuses on the treatment of sports injuries concerning psychological and social factors, which need to be considered in terms of a successful rehabilitation. Apart from mere physiological aspects, traumata as bio-psycho-social phenomenon and the following individual reactions of the athlete are examined.As a consequence different pedagogic or therapeutic areas of intervention result for the therapists, which may support and accompany the healing process, recovery and finally the return to athletic training. In addition to medical measures, cognitive techniques, psycho-regulative procedures or special methods with reference to sports psychology, referring to aspects like motivation, volition, perceived self-efficacy or relaxation, are at athletes? disposal in order to affect the progression of regeneration process. In accordance to an interdisciplinary approach, in is demonstrated that with the active collaboration of different professional groups and the patient, the personal and situational requirements can be met to successfully overcome the period of injury.Regarding prophylaxis, the conscious inclusion of contemplation, self-awareness or introspection, and the evaluation of risk factors in athletes` performances are the foundation for the development of preventative competences.
