In the course of various phenomena which have led to changes in the business world, learning has become a necessity and, thus, has also reached companies. Globalization, the rapidly progressive technological developments and other factors, repeatedly challenge companies, employees and, thus, the human resource development. Therefore, individuals as well as companies are required to adjust and to deal with this changed situation. Against this background, further training and learning are essential and contribute not only to the survival of companies but also to the personal development of employees. In connection with learning, education, further training and the workplace as place of permanent learning, the human resource development plays an important role in companies and their further educational training. This paper deals with the questions why learning has become to a necessity in connection with changes in the business world and how human resource development and learning are related to each other in this context. In order to do this, various points of view and theories will be outlined based on adequate scientific literature. In addition, interviews with experts in the area of human resource development of various industries will be evaluated and analyzed in order get an insight into how experts design the learning possibilities in their respective companies. Indeed, a summarizing content analysis displays the importance of learning and further training in the professional practice of human resource developers. Further, it also shows that there are various occasions that demand learning processes as, for example, technological, personal and legal changes. The methods and measures taken to design learning possibilities range from performance interviews and consulting to job rotation and networking on virtual platforms.
