Education is a central issue that is very important for the future of a region. Nowadays, dynamic processes are emerging in economic, socio-political and cultural developments that require the ongoing acquisition of special knowledge and qualifications. These in turn increase the professional, social, personal and methodological requirements and demands towards the population. The Holzwelt Murau is a regional development organization. This organization has the target to strengthen the district of Murau and to take action against the forcasted emigration. As a starting point it is necessary to adapt the whole regional offer of education and training to the needs of regional companies. Therefore, this thesis deals with the question how adult education facilities of the Holzwelt Murau can adapt their education and training offer to the needs of regional companies and how a future-oriented concept may look like. In order to answer this question, the first chapter of the theoretical part covers the topic of learning regions. The most important terms are defined and the issue of education-oriented regional development is explained in more detail. Accordingly, the challenges of lifelong learning and the concept of learning regions are described. The second chapter focuses on adult education institutions in Austria as well as the knowledge-building-process of adults. In this context this thesis focuses also on the present topic of learning with digital media. At the beginning of the empirical section, a comprehensive analysis of the initial situation regarding to regional main topics, educational institutions and the needs of enterprises regarding the training and further training takes place. The needs of the companies were assessed by an empirical study in form of qualitative interviews. Finally, based on the results of the analysis, recommendations for action are defined and summarized in a coherent concept.
