This thesis deals with the possibilities and limitations of intermunicipal cooperation, with a special focus on the amendment of the Federal Constitutional Law F.L.G. No. 60/2011 and its innovations in the field of cross-community collaboration. For a better understanding, relevant terms, as well as the different forms of appearance of intermunicipal cooperation, will be explained in the first chapter. In this regard, relevant modifications based on the amendment of the Federal Constitutional Law F.L.G.No. 60/2011 will be discussed. In the second chapter a general presentation of the municipality association in accordance with Article 116a Federal Constitutional Law will be given. The third chapter, however, particularly examines the quantitative and qualitative limitations of transferring matters pertaining to the municipality?s own sphere of competence to municipalities association. The fourth chapter highlights the limitations of decentralization of municipal tasks resulting as well from the Federal Constitutional Law as from the local government law of Styria.
