The present paper deals with generational relations in times of demographic change. The increasing number of senior citizens and the decreasing birth rate in Austria lead to major changes in the population structure and the relationships between the generations. Starting from the problem of an aging society the paper tries to show different perspectives for generational relations in the future. Therefore specific issues such as lifelong learning, work environments and innovative projects to promote solidarity between the generations are taken up. The focus lies in the elaboration of the developments and future prospects for the city of Mürzzuschlag, which seems to be in terms of demographic trends particularly effected by emigration and aging. Based on a document analysis and expert interviews the most important developments of the last 50 years are demonstrated and current offers and projects from the different generation sections in Mürzzuschlag are shown. The aim was to create future possibilities for the city of Mürzzuschlag, which can contribute to a positive urban development and provide a solidary coexistence of several generations.
