This master thesis titled ?Analysis and Benchmarking of the main bicycle routes of Graz andits surrounding area? is designed to study the state of the quality of the senior bicyclepath network. Furthermore it compares lanes and tries to figure out possibleimprovements. This proposal necessitates the measurement of several factors which haveeffects on usage and quality of those infrastructures. Thereforeselected factors are velocity, directness, defects (occurrence and value), types of bicyclepaths and prioritization at road-crossings. Measuring these parameters requires differentmethodical approaches, a complete elaboration of existing defects, the identification ofpossible developments since its installation as well as a GPS-based inspection togauche average speeds and points of delay. To solidify knowledge about bicycle issues, apoll of pupils and a traffic counting at a road crossing hasbeen done with the goal to learn about driving behavior of both, bicyclists and cardrivers. After recording all data and setting values for a positive rating ofrespective factors, an evaluation grid is used to get a benchmark of all routes and thenetwork as a whole. So the main objective of the present thesis is to create a ranking list of theroutes and additional recommended fields of action for prospectivemeasures related to achieve quality intensification. The evaluation grid could alsobe applied to similar bicycle networks to check their quality. Besides the ranking of the main bicycle routes, statistics about defects, the illustration of developments, possible practical solutions for some problems relating to a road crossing as well as to the main bicycle route 10 can be seen as an additional value of this master thesis. Furthermore, it is recommended to use the methodic and criteria of this study to get the network of bicycle routes in a continuous checkup to enhance its quality and lead the traffic system of Graz to a sustainable future.
