Working tasks of teachers are increasing - while their principal task is to teach, students should also be raised, supported, advised and simultaneously evaluated by the teacher. Many teachers lack important resources which would help them handle all those tasks and demands, which is reflected by the high early retirement rate of 50-60% in the teaching profession. Psychic disorders cause more than half of all early retirements. Burnout and depression are on top of the list.In this paper, specific workloads, which are regarded as triggers of those disorders, will be examined firstly in order to be able to present occupation-specific stressors. Additionally, a detailed description of both disorders will be given including symptoms and aetiology. Based on the examined stressors as well as the causes and symptoms of burnout and depression it will be possible to conclude on necessary resources which should be promoted in prophylaxis and therapy. Sport- and movement therapy plays an increasingly important role in various therapeutic approaches. Therefore, this paper should deal with this kind of therapy and explain why and how sport and movement support prophylaxis and therapy of psychic disorders. In addition, specific methods and procedures will be described. Finally, it should be shown how certain activities and exercises can improve specific relevant resources and alleviate symptoms. Therefore, positive effects of movement and sport therapy will be clarified and presented by describing the effects of some exemplary activities.
