This diploma thesis shall generate an international law analysis of the protection on the rights of the child and the right to education in Ethiopia. The thesis is divided into three chapters and the emphasis is on the second chapter. The emphasis of this research is on the UN-Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. The first chapter comprises an introduction and the way of looking at the problem. In the second chapter, there is an examination of the crucial provisions of children?s rights in Ethiopia. The international law research on the implementation of the children?s rights is an important part as well. The practice should be brought out, especially in comparison to the provisions in the documents. At this point, the first research question is: Is there a gap between the provisions and the implementation of these provisions? If yes, how big is this gap? This research question is the most significant one. Furthermore, there is research on the right to education. The provisions are examined first and after it there follows the examination of the implementation. At this point there is the second research question: How effective is the implementation of the right to education? In addition, there is an examination of the institutions for the promotion and protection of the rights of the child in this chapter. At this point there is the third and last research question: How effective are these institutions in promoting and protecting the rights of the child? In the third chapter, the future prospects of the protection on the rights of the child and the right to education, and the collaboration of the European Union and Ethiopia are examined along general lines.
