Working time is fundamental for every company. On the one hand employees should work as efficient as possible and they should use their working hours to full capacity, on the other hand, the employees are in need of protection. Above all, their health is endangered if they work too many hours. That is why the legislation determines eligibilities for distribution of working hours which establish a balancing of interests. In this context, upper limits of working time are very important as well. Employers can face criminal charges if working hours are exceeded.In my thesis, I therefore want to demonstrate upper limits of working hours according to AZG as well as EU Directives and eligibilities for distribution of working hours. In addition, I also concentrate on overtime work. I explain possibilities for the obligation of employees to accomplishing overtime hours, the legal requirements and their financial compensation.
