WORKPLACE HEALTH PROMOTION IN THEORY AND PRACTICEUrsula Kainz & Eva-Maria Wolfbauer The purpose of this thesis is to study workplace health promotion. It includes a theoretical as well as an empirical part. The thesis? first section reviews the history and development of this topic, and provides important definitions as well as theoretical information. The theoretical emphasis is on possible measures and on the implementation of workplace health promotion in a company. The theoretical part ends with an accentuation of this topic?s importance as a management philosophy. The empirical chapter of this thesis is subdivided into two parts, expert interviews and a work place health promotion project. To get practical information about the current situation in Styria concerning this topic, semi-structured expert interviews were conducted. For that purpose, we interviewed organizations that practice workplace health promotion themselves, and organizations that offer workplace health promotion as service to other companies. The results of these interviews supplement the theoretical information of the first chapter, and were incorporated into the planning of the project. For the project, we created two workplace health promotion concepts for an association. The first concept aims to be realized in the short term. Therefore, it describes the organization of a kick-off-meeting. This meeting represents the association?s start of the workplace health promotion project. Also, we provide first measures that are easy and quickly to realize. The second concept describes the necessary steps for the long term implementation of workplace health promotion in that association. The emphasis of this concept is especially on holistic organizational integration. In the final chapter, a résumé of the most important findings, thought-provoking impulses and suggestions of improvement are given.
