The Council of Europe and the Organization of American States are two significant regional organizations with different spheres of influence. In this paper both organizations are introduced and the paper concludes summarizing them. At the beginning it focuses on the start of process, the legal basis and the goals and principles of the respective organization. Afterwards the membership, including the special forms of membership and the termination were described and subsequently the institutional structure of both organizations is examined. Before a summary comparison completes this paper, there are some excursions dealing with the European Convention of Human Rights, the European Social Charta and the American Convention of Human Rights.
