The particulate matter problem in Styria is a popular topic in our country. We are confronted with this subject in winter almost every day. For example, if you are driving on the motorway and the particulate matter value is above 50 g/m, the road signs will instruct you to reduce your driving speed.There are problems with exceeding the daily particulate matter limit not only in Graz. In many other regions of Styria they have installed measurement stations to register the particulate matter situation there. This thesis will show the particulate matter situation in three other regions of Styria. These regions are the ?Oberes Ennstal?, ?Aichfeld-Murboden? and the ?Östlicher Randgebirgsfuß?.Generally this thesis contains two parts. The first part describes the theoretical information about the topic particulate matter and deals with the following issues: air, harmful substances, inversion, climatic and topographic distinctions of the researched regions.The second part shows the data evaluation. First of all there will be a detailed description of the particulate matter situation in the four winter months 2003/04 to 2007/08. Furthermore, the exceeding of the particulate matter limit is shown to be higher during the week.Another analysis shows, which climatic factors have an important influence on the particulate matter value. These are the factors, wind and weather conditions. You can study the demonstration of the results in chapter six.The results of this thesis will be shown in summary, where the difference in the regions and the distinctions of the separate regions are worked out.
