The aim of this thesis is to analyze the district of Wiener Neustadt as economic location in a regional and national context. An important keyword in the Economic Geography is location location factors, location theories and the term of conurbation are part of it. Concerning the location factors of the region of Wiener Neustadt, some aspects should be emphasized for example the embedding in a cluster, a good traffic connection and very good educational opportunities.Furthermore, the location theories of von Thünen (specifically the “Lagerentenfunktion”), Christaller, and the cluster theory can be used in the district of Wiener Neustadt. Additionally, Wiener Neustadt can be defined as small agglomeration which implicates mainly positive effects for the city and the surrounding region. Furthermore, the region of Wiener Neustadt is examined regarding influencing factors. In doing so the “magic square” in economics, economic relations, the process of globalization, sustainability and rural economic regions are used. Two of the key figures of the “magic square”, the rate of inflation and the external balance plead for the location, the two other ones against it. Economic relations mostly take place with other countries of the European Union. The process of globalization is present in Wiener Neustadt, whereas sustainability is not that important. The region of Wiener Neustadt can also be defined as a typical rural economic region. Therefore, the district as well as the city of Wiener Neustadt with their long tradition can be defined as a good economic location. Strengths of the region that should be emphasized are the cluster embedding, the good traffic connection, very good educational opportunities and the high centrality of Wiener Neustadt.
