Some love them, others hate them. When it comes to tabloids opinions differ widely. Their success, however, is beyond dispute. This final thesis demonstrates that tabloids differ from quality newspapers in various ways. Their role in society is still a fundamental one. The research question whether this kind of journalism is a phenomenon of the past or a product with future can be answered via research on the media market, an interview with an expert as well as an analysis of newspaper contents. The result, which shows that tabloid press will have a legitimization on the media market in the future, is justified by its role in society. Its main aim is to entertain, not to inform about world affairs. Beyond that, it highlights topics from a different perspective, which, however, does not mean that it is irrelevant or unprofessional. Quality media, on the contrary, are not always objective or neutral neither.
