This master thesis aims to analyse the history of women's projects in general, as well as the organization “Frauenservice Graz” in particular. Based on contemporary documents of Frauenservice Graz and an interview with the director and the education officer I explored the institutions foundation and development. I examined the principles of practical work and their advancement, and analysed the relation to womens and gender studies. The foundation of Frauenservice is closely associated with the Second Women's Movement. Due to professionalization and requirements given by public institutions, principles were modified and expanded, however they did not change fundamentally. The Frauenservice maintained the feminist guidelines, whereas feminism is seen as a comprehensive approach and developed discursively. Therefore the staff of Frauenservice is interested in results from womens and gender studies, not only to directly support practical work, but also for the reflection of their activities.
