This masterthesis deals theoretically aswell as empirically with Heinrich Hoffmanns picture book „Der Struwwelpeter oder lustige Geschichten und drollige Bilder“ from 1845. The aim of this thesis is, to expose the everlasting fascination of the classic childrens book and to show its change in aspects of education during time. This classic picture book will be additionally analyzed with the help of a kind of content analysis and a picture analysis based on specific questions and categories. Further there will be a comparison and analysis with two new versions of the book from 1970 and 2013. The reason of this examination is, to point out the changes within children- and youth literature on concerning educational aspects, starring a classic. The results show a change of the educational style, the childrens behaviors and the position of the parents. Furthermore it points out, some kind of an adaption to the current educational ideas. Nevertheless, it also demonstrates, that there are some similarities in between the original from Hoffmann and the two other versions, for example the physical punishments, the use of frightening characters or the lack of female persons.
