The present work deals with the topic drug consumption rooms and focuses especially on Austria in the included research project. The consumption of illegalised psychoactive substances are examined in the context of the Austrian society. Initially, a theoretical discussion with the topics psychoactive substances, addiction and addiction care takes place. These topics are linked to drug consumption rooms in this work. Afterwards, the expectations on drug consumption rooms are analysed through three interviews with experts, three with consumers of illegalised psychoactive substances and six with people, who does not consume illegalised psychoactive substances daily or at all. Moreover, it examines, to which extent drug consumption rooms are appreciated in Austria. So the main expectations on drug consumption rooms include especially the protection of survival through the provision of secure rooms and sterile consumption utensils. Furthermore, the psychosocial and health situation of the consumers of illegalizes psychoactive substances should be improved and the public should be relieved through reduced public consumption occurrences and proper waste disposal of consumption utensils. Tendentially, drug consumption rooms are welcomed in Austria according to this qualitative analysis. However, a lot of political, juridical and social difficulties and challenges are expected as well as problems with finding a location.
