This master theses is about the correspondency between Vatroslav Jagić and Hugo Schuchardt, both extraordinary linguists at their time. Allthough Jagić is commonly known as the „father“ of slavonic philology and hence a slavist and Schuchardt a roman philologist, they both shared the same passion linguistics and relationships of languages in Europe and beyond. The correspondency provides an insight in their private world and the political situations they were confronted with, both in Europe as at university level. Mostly its about research in the respective area of expertice. So, it does not only permit the insight in the live of two such important researchers, it also provides an overview on the developing of an unique linguistics scientific network. Due to the epoche-making work of these two scientists and their co-workers, slavonic and romance philology could take roots in science and research of the 19. century and onwards.
