This master thesis deals with the field of education and competence recognition for adult educators in Austria. The focus of this thesis is based on the degree programmes 'contin-uing education (lifelong learning)' and 'adult and continuing education' at Graz university, the degree programme 'adult and vocational education' at Klagenfurt university, as well as the system for competence recognition of the Academy for Further Education Austria. The goal of this thesis was, besides recording programmes for adult educators in Austria and an initial comparison of both the curricula of the study programmes and the Academy for Further Education Austria, to analyse the field of professionalization of adult educators and structures of adult education. Furthermore, the thesis aims to clarify whether there exist documents in the various areas of adult education, which give a detailed list of the prerequisites for their employees. In the analysis of the documents, the focus lies on the degree programmes in adult education and the degrees of the Academy for Further Education Austria (wba certificate/wba diploma) and in which relation they stand to each other. The findings of this Master thesis are, that there are only partially documents with detailed prerequisites and that the relation between the study programmes and the degrees of the Academy is variable. This relation could not be distinctly clarified and requires further research.
