Many detective stories have achieved not at least due to their investigators figure a high-cult-status. In this deploma thesis, the typical male investigators figure in contemporary Austrian detective stories should be illustrated by creating a so-called investigators-profile.In the theoretical part, after a general explanation oft he character concept and the scheme of literary figures, the ‚Figures Clock’, which ist he basic model of figure analysis by Jens Eder, is presented, which is also used as the basis oft he figure analysis in this thesis. Furthermore, also basic concepts and generic features oft he detective story, the tradition oft he Austrian detective story and the investigatores figure as a specific form of literary character and as the ‚Porter of Border and Law’ are discussed in the theoretical chapters. In the analysis part, by th eusage of seven investigators figures from selected detective stories and by reference to some criteria oft he ’Figures Clock’, typical external and internal features oft he Austrian investigators figure and their living-environment are presented. As another practical feature of investigators figures the detection method is also part oft he practical analysis. Due tot he resulting similarities between the characters, an investigators-profile shows how a character must be designed to be typical Austrian.
