This diploma thesis approaches the topics stress as well as stress-management by means of sports. Not only a stress preventing, but also a stress intervening program for students attending „Modulare Oberstufe“ upper class is developed in this work. Statements such as „I am completely stressed out“ and „I am totally overchallenged“ are frequently uttered nowadays. These days the negative consequences of chronic stress for our mental and physical health are alarming. Even children and teenagers are affected by this development and suffer from psychosomatic disorders due to stress. Having said that, stress does not only have a negative connotation. The appropriate amount of positive stress, called eustress, can cause a performance-enhancing effect for the whole organism. The crucial issue about stress is to find the balance between tension and relaxation. The theoretical part of this thesis includes the following contents: eustress vs. distress, stress perception, the historical meaning of stress, psychical and physical reactions to stress, stress at present time, children and teenagers under stress as well as the impact of permanent stress for our bodies and minds. The practical part consists of two components. First of all, the area of stress-management by means of sports is examined and finally, the „Stressless zur Matura“-program, which includes 10 lesson plans and their interpretations, is shown.
