Over and over, people face the question in which profession they want to work in the future. Beside personal interests the degree of education has got more important than in the last years, as some jobs require a specific education, for example the profession teacher for business subjects. In Austria, it is only possible to work in this profession if a person finished a university degree and has several years of relevant professional experience in business. The field of business education provides economically and educationally interested persons the possibility of a multiple qualifying, scientific vocational training. Because of the polyvalent study, graduates have various job opportunities. That is the reason why graduates ask themselves the following question: In what field of action graduates should work? Should they work as a teacher or do they want to work something else? The career choice is a lifelong, complex process that is influenced by endogenous and exogenous factors. The aim of this master thesis is to explore which endogenous and exogenous factors lead to the decision to become a teacher after complementing the business education study at the University of Graz. To answer this question, the second chapter deals with business education and development in Austria with a specific focus on Graz. At the beginning of this chapter different definitions of the term business education are presented, then the history is explained and the polyvalence is explained. Afterwards, the various fields of action are explained. The field of action school is discussed in a separate chapter in more detail. The fourth chapter gives an overview of different career choice theories and shows different endogenous and exogenous factors. Through an empirical study, the research question should be answered in the fifth chapter. For the empirical part, data of an online survey and independent implemented interviews are used.
