As a prospective teacher and volleyball player, the topic of talent development is obvious. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the progress of talent development in volleyball. The first part, part A, works out the terms: talent, talent criteria, talent diagnosis and talent development, specifically in the sport of volleyball. Since the parents are the main source of support in the early years of childhood, their role in talent development is mentioned as well. A requirements specification should find out which abilities a prospective volleyball player should cover.The second part, Part B, deals with development of talent in practice. For this purpose, the three Styrian Volleyball Performance Centers are delineated. In cooperation with a school, these centers combine high level sports with education. The goal is to create athletes for the first national league whilst offering a valuable education with a final high school diploma. To conclude, a nonjudgmental evaluation demonstrates differences and similarities of the mentioned performance centers.
