In Austrian school books and curricula, Turkey's history and society is not discussed sufficiently in the school subject "History, Social and Political Education", although more and more children with Turkish descent attend Austrian schools. The aim of this thesis is to fill this knowledge gap, particularly by providing information about the more recent history of Turkey which should serve as a basic concept for further transfer of knowledge and information within the framework of the school subject "History, Social and Political Education". The topic of my paper ranges from the history, geography and economy of Turkey, the EU admission discussions and Turkey's handling with minority groups. Furthermore, I provide pupils with links to the history of their country of origin, respectively the country of their ancestors, in order to encourage them to deal with their identity and roots. However, discussions about countries like Turkey should not only help children with migration background to find more self-esteem, but also support the other pupils in class in the sense of multiperspectivity. The paper is divided into a theoretical and a didactical part. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I focus on geographical and historical data of Turkey. Moreover, I give an overview of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey which is closely connected to the cultural revolution of the country. Particularly, I discuss the political, economical and social development of the country from the time of foundation until today. In detail, I investigate the political and social development of the second part of the 20th century. Additionally, I discuss the reformations of Mustafa Kemal, also called Atatürk, who is regarded as a national hero from the Turkish perspective. Furthermore, the political situation in Turkey as well as the controversies concerning the negotiations between Turkey and the European Union are reviewed. In the didactical part of the paper I focus on a lesson plan for the subject "History, Social and Political Education" about how to deal with the topic of Turkey in the course of "Political Education" in class and how to integrate competence of political education during the lessons.
