The following diploma thesis deals with how the topic of fossil resources and petrol chemistry can be effectively taught within skill-based chemistry classes. Within the scope of the theory part of this thesis, the way of fossil oil, starting with the search for it, to the delivery and finally to the processing, will be described in detail. The main focus of this part will be on the chemical aspect of the process of refining. The didactic part of the thesis will present the skill-based model of teaching chemistry and in addition aims at explaining the most vital terms and features of skill-based teaching in general. Another main focus is put on experimenting, which constitutes a main feature of skill-based chemistry teaching. Furthermore, the immediate connection to the curriculum and interdisciplinary aspects of the topic of “fossil resources petrol chemistry” are explained in detail. In the practical part of the thesis an example of skill-orientated teaching of the topic of fossil resources and the corresponding data and materials will be presented. In addition, this thesis contains several experiments with detailed instructions, which will be added to the work in form of teaching material including evaluation and support through images.
