Setting: Violence against women is a sensitive topic and precarious issue in our society. It strongly influences the entire health behavior and quality of life of affected women, and therefore represents an enormous challenge for the health care system. Very often, domestic violence is not detected or recognized. The challenge is to recognize an escalating violence setting, and to take adequate respective action. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze how nursing professionals can support, attend, and provide advice to women suffering from domestic violence. Method: The method of analysis is the study of current specialist literature and magazines, and of qualitative and quantitative research results. Conclusion: The development of various projects, prevention programs and public relations campaigns help to reach target groups adequately, and also create a sensitivity among all main players in the health care system that enables them to act in a preventive and professionally competent way, when they encounter cases of domestic violence.
