Main basis of the master's thesis are the three volumes of sermons, the collected sermons and speeches of Samuel Mühsams time in Graz. As part of the Master's thesis, the documents are filed in the historical context and set out the framework for the treatment of the individual sermons. An image of the Graz Jewish community at the turn of the century, as well as an image of Samuel Mühsam as rabbi of Graz will be created, based on three research questions. The investigation revealed some characteristics of the rabbinate of Samuel Mühsam: These are rulers loyalty, advocacy for the "one humanity" and criticism of "apostasy".Mühsams representation of the Jewish community in Graz is set in relation to historical research location. Additionally to that Mühsams biography is set in relationship with four rabbis of his time. To conclude Samuel Mühsam was a conservative rabbi in a relatively liberal community, which Mühsam describes as united, little religious and very concerned about sick and poor caring.
